On Wednesday, October 11, at its Center for Health & Wellbeing, the Winter Park Health Foundation hosted the Hispanic Heritage Network of Orange County, a local non-profit organization, and Orange County Government for “Riqueza Latina,” a celebration to commemorate the closing of Hispanic Heritage Month. Celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.
The Center came alive with activations and experiences inspired by Hispanic culture. Attendees enjoyed the food and drink from Mexico and Peru prepared by Don Julio Mexican Kitchen; admired a traditional dress display with pieces representing Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Spain; enjoyed sweet treats and coffee from Mercatos Bakery; watched an awards ceremony led by Spectrum News journalist Ybeth Bruzal and that featured Orange County Mayor Jerry Demmings and WPHF President and CEO Patty Maddox; and celebrated with cultural dance performances by Mexico Lindo and Raymi Dance School. Intentionally designed to foster experiences for collaboration and connection, the Center for Health & Wellbeing was the perfect backdrop for this colorful and vibrant evening shared with influential members of our communities.
“We have a large Hispanic community in Central Florida, so it’s important to celebrate its many contributions,” said Yetzenia Negron, Orange County Events and Special Programs Manager. “This month highlights our culture and traditions, and it helps keep them alive for the entire community to benefit and enjoy.”
As part of its philanthropic outreach work, the Winter Park Health Foundation collaborates in a variety of ways with non-profit partners whose missions align with ours – to make a positive difference in people’s lives by optimizing physical, mental and social health and wellbeing – including on events like this hosted at the Center for Health & Wellbeing.
